  A fixture is a process device used to rapidly fasten workpieces during machining and maintain the correct relative position between the workpiece and the machine tool.

When machining workpieces on machine tools, the workpiece must be positioned and securely clamped before processing. This ensures the machined surfaces meet the technical specifications specified in drawings, including dimensional tolerances, geometric form accuracy, and positional accuracy relative to other surfaces.

Fixtures generally consist of the following components:
  1. Locating elements: fix the accurate position of the workpiece inside the fixture;

  2. Clamping devices: secure the workpiece tightly;

  3. Setting and guiding elements: define the relative position to the workpiece or guide cutting tools;

  4. Indexing devices: enable machining at multiple stations in a single setup, categorized into rotary indexing devices and linear travel indexing devices;

  5. Connecting elements;

  6. Fixture body and backpiece.
